The project “Climate Change — A Global Issue” is an initiative of Klaipėda State University of Applied Sciences aimed at contributing to the goals of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania’s annual Climate Week. The project seeks to strengthen the environmental awareness of the Klaipėda community, encourage critical engagement with climate-change challenges, and foster responsibility for a sustainable lifestyle.

During the event, a variety of educational, creative, and practical activities will be organized for different audiences—school pupils, students, educators, and the general public. One of the main activities will be a seminar featuring presentations by university lecturers, environmental activists, and green technology specialists. The thematic areas will include energy-saving measures, the development of sustainable transport, principles of sustainable nutrition, and pollution-reduction strategies.

Youth creativity and engagement will be encouraged through two competitions: an interactive environmental knowledge quiz and the ideas competition “Creating a Greener Future,” which will seek original solutions to reduce environmental pollution. These competitions will not only develop participants’ knowledge but also generate new initiatives that can contribute to shaping a sustainable environment.

To ensure long-term impact, methodological materials on pollution-reduction opportunities will be prepared. They will be presented during the event, published on the Klaipėda State University of Applied Sciences website, and integrated into the educational process of at least three city schools.

Additional value will be created by an exhibition of low-emission transport, where the public will have the opportunity to explore the latest models of electric vehicles and other alternative modes of transport.

In summary, the project will enable the Klaipėda community to gain new knowledge, develop sustainable lifestyle skills, and actively contribute to solving climate-change issues, thereby strengthening the city’s contribution to environmental protection and the implementation of sustainable development goals.

Goal

The goal is to organize a Climate Week event and implement additional measures to raise awareness of environmental problems related to climate change.

Results and outcomes

Planned results

  • Seminar during Climate Week: prepare and deliver at least 5 presentations on climate change, pollution reduction, and sustainable living. At least 200 participants (students, pupils, teachers, and company representatives) will attend, expanding public awareness.

  • Knowledge competition: create an interactive quiz (20–30 questions) on environmental topics. The three participants with the most correct answers will receive prizes, encouraging active learning and engagement.

  • “Creating a Greener Future” ideas competition: pupils and students will create posters, video clips, mock-ups, infographics, or models from reused materials. The best ideas will be publicized and awarded, fostering a creative approach to environmental protection.

  • Methodological materials on pollution reduction: slides, short videos, and other demonstration materials will be presented at the event, published on the KVK website, and used in at least 3 Klaipėda schools, ensuring long-term impact in the learning process.

  • Low-emission transport exhibition: participants will explore electric vehicles and other sustainable transport options, encouraging interest in alternative everyday solutions.

Expected benefits

  • Social: the project will unite diverse groups—pupils, students, teachers, and company representatives—around a common goal, strengthening community ties and collaboration in environmental protection.

  • Educational: participants will gain new knowledge about the causes of climate change and solutions; critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving competencies will be developed. The methodological materials will remain in use at schools and the college, ensuring continuity.

  • Environmental: the ideas competition will encourage innovative pollution-reduction measures, while the low-emission transport exhibition will introduce the public to alternative sustainable solutions.
