Why study this programme?

Social work is one of the youngest specialties in the world, counting only 100 years of existence. And in Lithuania, this specialty has been known and practiced for just over 20 years. To study social work should choose those who want to aquired specialty which will not allow them to feel routine in their daily work, because every working day will be different. Challenges await the social worker, new opportunities for self-expression, development of working methods and forms, establishment of new relationships with those who ask for help and want to help them. Each day is marked by a desire to work with all professions for the noble goal of helping. While working in social work, one can experience fullness, feel the meaning of life and, most importantly, feel needed, because the most important thing in this work is the opportunity to help the weakest members of society in every possible way.

Study environment

Students are encouraged to acquire international study experience of social work when choosing studies abroad (from 1 semester to 1 academic year through the exchange programmes). General competences and subject competences (ability to solve complex problems, critical thinking, creativity, human resource management, teamwork, emotional intelligence, decision making reception, service orientation, negotiation skills) are promoted and deepened in non-formal way (professional practice, competitions for mastery, national and international project activities).

Career

Graduates will be able to work as social workers in social security, education and health institutions, law and order institutions, public, non-governmental or private sectors

Goal of the program

To train social workers who are able to apply the knowledge and skills of social work professionally and creatively in the constantly changing society providing social assistance for different client groups undertaking obligations for social justice, person‘s rights and professional ethics.

Subjects

General study subjects (10 credits): Philosophy, Academic and Professional literacy, professional foreign language.
Study field‘s subjects is (117 credits): Social education and Preventive work, Sociology, Volunteering and Experiential learning, General and Development Psychology, Team Work in Social Work, Labor and Social Security Law, Introduction into Social Work and Professional Ethics, Social Research Methods, Social Policy, The Basics of Law in Social Work, Theoretical Models of Social Work, Social Entrepreneurship, Methods of Social Work I, Social Services, Social Psychology, Spirituality in Social Work, Methods of Social Work II, Term Paper on Social Work with Clients, Stress Management Models, Social Projects and Programmes, Social Gerontology, Rehabilitation and Integration of the Disabilities People, Rehabilitation of Social Risk Groups, Social Services Management, Crisis Management in Social Work, Media in Social Work, Social Work in the Health Care System.
Optional subjects (9 credits).
Practices (35 credits): Cognitive Practice, Institutional Social Work Practice, Practice in Social Work With Cases.
Graduation Paper (9 credits).

Study results

Graduates:
1. Selects the most effective communication methods in collaboration with a client or a system of client.
2. Apply the most suitable strategy of assistance following the case analysis of a client and case analysis of client‘s system.
3. Apply various methods of social work with clients.
4. Create a help plan by concentrating and using human, financial and other resources.
5. Is able to assign the roles of other professionals in the interdisciplinary environment.
6. Is able to link the need for social assistance with the most effective assistance following the principles of harmonious development.
7. Prepares an action plan to assamble the community and to enable it.
8. Is able to reflect and evaluate professional activity applying theoretical and practical experience.
9. Is able analyze the data of research applying the knowledge and practice of social work.
